What to Expect from Stage 6 of the 2024 Tour de France

Stage 6 of the 2024 Tour de France will feature a route through the famous winemaking region of Burgundy.

The peloton will set out from the city of Mâcon along the River Saône heading north to the city of Dijon. This will be the seventh time riders have set out from Mâcon for the Tour de France in the race's history. Dijon last hosted a Tour de France stage finish in 1997. The riders will cover 163.5 km along the flat route, which features only about 1,000 meters of elevations gain and has a single categorized climb: the Col du Bois Clair, a 1.6-kilometer ascent at 6% gradient, classified as Category 4. This climb comes early in the stage, at the 10-kilometer mark.

The flat profile of the stage is likely to favor sprinters, and the final 800 meters of the route are on a straight road, which should set up an exciting sprint finish. Time bonuses of 10, 6, and 4 seconds are awarded to the first three riders across the finish line.

This stage is expected to be a relatively straightforward one for the peloton, with sprinters' teams likely to control the race and set up a bunch sprint in Dijon.
