Alexandre Delettre (St. Michel–Mavic–Auber93) emerged as the winner of Stage 2 of the Tour Alsace, with Tom Donnenwirth (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale Development) in second place. On the sprint to the line, Donnenwirth crossed the line first, but was disqualified from the victory for irregular riding, meaning he was categorized as 2nd on the stage and in the general classification behind Delettre. Alexandre Delettre was one of the favorites going into the Tour Alsace. Jørgen Nordhagen (Visma–Lease a Bike Development) finished in third. After his victory in Stage 2, Alexandre Delettre also took the lead in the General Classification.
After riding for the French UCI Pro team Delko as a stagiaire in 2019, Alexandre Delettre signed a two-year neo-pro contract with the team in 2021. As an amateur, Delettre rode for the Vélo Club Villefranche Beaujolais. He won the mountains classification at the 2021 Étoile de Bessèges, marking a significant early success in his professional career. In 2023, Delettre took 5th at Gooikse Pijl and 6th at the Tour de Vendée 8th at Polynormande. In 2024 so far, he has finish 3rd at Paris–Camembert, 3rd at the Route Adélie, 4th overall at the Tour des Alpes-Maritimes, and 5th overall at Four Days of Dunkirk.
Donnenwirth joined the Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale Development team in 2024 on his first professional contract. As a puncheur-style rider, Donnenwirth has shown promise in a number of recent races, including 2nd place in the General Classification of the Tour de la Mirabelle in 2023, 2nd place in a stage of the Tour du Pays de Montbéliard in 2023, 5th place in a stage of the Istarsko Proljeće - Istrian Spring Trophy in 2024, and 9th place in a stage of the Tour of the Alps in 2024. Donnenwirth has also demonstrated his versatility by finishing 6th in the Points Classification of the Tour Cycliste International de la Guadeloupe in 2022.
Stage 3 will take place entirely in Haute-Saône, from Vesoul to the Planche des Belles-Filles over 132.7 kilometers. The start of the stage is located in the Haute-Saônoise plain ischaracterized by relatively flat terrain, however, the final climb to the Planche des Belles-Filles will provide the most intense moment of the race along with a breathtaking spectacle for spectators.
