Artem Nych Wins a Mountainous Stage 6 at the 2024 Volta a Portugal

 

On Stage 6 of the Volta a Portugal, the peloton took on a mountainous route from from the city of Bragança to Boticas in northeastern Portugal. The day would take the riders over a distance of 169.1 kilometers, and included five categorized climbs. 

On an expected day for the climbers to shine, Artem Nych (Glassdrive–Q8–Anicolor) proved to have the legs to finish, breaking off the front and holding off the peloton. Nych finished 1 minute in front of the peloton on the finish in Boticas to capture the stage victory. General classification leader Afonso Eulálio (ABTF Betão - Feirense) finished second on the day, followed by Tyler Stites (Project Echelon Racing).

Nych was the 2021 Russian National Road Race Champion in 2021, as well as the 2015 Russian Under-23 Road Race Champion. In 2023, he was the overall winner of GP Beiras e Serra da Estrela, and has finished 3rd at the Russian National Time Trial Championships in 2019 and 2nd at the Russian National Road Race Championships in 2017.

Stage 7 will begin in Felgueiras, a city in Portugal's northern Porto district, covering 160.4 kilometers before finishing in Paredes.
