Tom Pidcock Earns Olympic Gold Medal for Great Britain in Men's Mountain Bike Race

British rider Tom Pidcock showcased his physical and mental resilience in the Olympic Men's Mountain Bike competition, overcoming a mid-race puncture to secure his second consecutive Olympic gold. Pidcock fell behind the field early due to a tire issue, but ultimately managed to close a 40-second gap to the leader, Victor Koretzky of France, and ultimately won the race by executing a strategic move in the final moments to overtake Koretzky.

Pidcock currently rides for the UCI WorldTeam Ineos Grenadiers. Pidcock won the gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, defending his title in the discipline. Pidcock, born in Leeds, England in 1999, turned professional in 2021 and quickly made his mark by winning the Brabantse Pijl road classic in his first season. He has also previously won gold at the 2023 World Championships in cross-country mountain biking and in 2022 at the Cyclo-cross World Championships. He won the Strade Bianche in 2023 and Amstel Gold Race in 2024 as well, and at the 2023 Tour de France, Pidcock became the youngest rider to win a stage on the iconic Alpe D'Huez as well.

Victor Koretzky finished in second to earn the silver medal for France, and Alan Hatherly crossed the line in third to secure a bronze medal for South Africa.
