BMC Racing Becomes CCC Pro Team

After spending 12 seasons under the name BMC Racing Team, the team has now officially changed its name to CCC Pro Team beginning the 2019 season.

BMC Racing Team was owned by Swiss businessman Andy Rihs. Rihs was born in Stuttgart, Germany and along with his brother Hans-Euli co-owned hearing-aid company Phonak after inheriting the business from their father. The BMC team emerged in 2007 out of the previous Phonak sponsored team, which Rihs started in 2007.

From 2007-2018 BMC Switzerland title-sponsored the team. BMC Switzerland AG is a Switzerland-based bicycle and cycling product manufacturer, whose equipment was used by the team.

Following the passing of Rihs, CCC announced that they would take over as title sponsor of the former BMC team and ownership of the team would be passed on to American businessman Jim Ochowicz.

CCC Sprandi Polkowice is Polish shoe retailer, and previously title-sponsored a UCI Pro-Continental cycling team.

The CCC Pro Team will compete on the WorldTour in 2019, switching to the Taiwanese company Giant for their bikes, and will use Shimano components.

CCC Pro Team will being their 2019 season on January 15 at the Santos Tour Down Under in Australia.
