Stage 3 of 2018 Santos Tour Down Under has Fast Finish and a New Stage Winner



Stage 3 of the 2018 Santos Tour Down Under was a fast and furious sight, as the riders charged from the start in Glenelg, near the coast just south of Adelaide proper.

On a hot day in South Australia the riders went off to a fast start, tackling the 146.5 kilometer route south to the coastal town of Victor Harbor.

Scott Bowden (IsoWhey Sports Swiss Wellness) led the charge, capturing the final intermediate sprint before being dragged back by the peloton.

In the closing 5 kilometers the Katusha-Alpecin, Mitchelton-Scott, and Lotto Soudal teams jockeyed for position, seeking to put their sprinters off to a good finish.

In the final kilometer, Alex Edmondson (Israel Cycling Academy), Elia Viviani (Quick Step Floors), and Stage 2 winner Caleb Ewan (Mitchelton-Scott) has the best positioning, fighting into the final 300 meters.

Phil Bauhaus (Team Sunweb) surged as Alex Edmonson fell off, and at the line Elia Viviani was able to make the strongest push and cross the line as winner of Stage 3.

Viviani celebrated as he captured his first stage victory of the 2018 Tour.

Stage 4 will take the riders 128.2 kilometers from Norwood to Uraidla beginning at 10:30 am local time.
