Quick-Step Floors Rider Captures Stage 1 Victory at 36th Vuelta a San Juan Internacional



A hot and humid day in Argentina began the 36th edition of the Vuelta a San Juan Internacional.

On the first intermediate sprint of the day Adrian Richeze (ACA Virgen de Fatima) beat out Facundo Cattapan (Municipalidad de Rawson) and Daniel Juarez (Asociacion Civil Mardan) to take 3 points and 3 bonus seconds.

Daniel Juarez took the race's first 3 KOM points ahead of Pablo Anchieri (Seleccion Uruguay) and Duilio Ramos (Seleccion Argentina), while Adrian Richeze once again won an intermediate sprint taking the second intermediate sprint of the day in front of Facundo Cattapan and Juarez .

Richeze led the break group of five riders with 24 kilometers remaining, but the peloton soon converged as the lead group pushed the pace towards the finish.

7 kilometers from the finish Gerardo Tivani (Municipalidad de Pocito) led the pack, taking advantage of the front of the race.

As a large group of frontrunners fought for the stage victory coming into Pocito, Fernando Gaviria (Quick-Step Floors) was able to separate himself at the front of the pack and comfortably sprint across the finish in first place to take the Stage 1 victory at the Vuelta a San Juan Internacional.

Stage 2 will be a looping course that begins and ends in Peri Lago Punta Negra, covering 149.9 kilometers with two intermediate sprints and four category 3 climbs.
