Canel's-Specialized Rider Emerges Victorious on Stage 2 of Vuelta a San Juan

On Stage 2 of the Vuelta a San Juan Internacional the energy in the peloton was high as the riders set off on the 149.9 kilometer stage in Peri Lago Punta Negra.

Gerardo Tivani (Municipalidad de Pocito) was the first rider to cross the line on the stage's first of two intermediate sprints on the day.

At the first KOM up for grabs on the day, Tivani took second behind Roderyck Asconeguy (Seleccion Uruguay).

However, Tivani would push the pace once again and take the second intermediate sprint of the day, ahead of Ignacio Prado (Canel's-Specialized).

Prado would then capture the third KOM of the day, ahead of Tivani, as well as taking the fourth and final KOM title on Stage 2.

UnitedHealthcare rider Carlos Alzate would take the second intermediate sprint title of the day.

With 20 kilometers remaining on the stage, five riders help a small gap on the peloton, but were quickly caught as the front pack came back together.

In the final kilometer Roman Villalobos (Canel's-Specialized) was able to create separation at the front and take the Stage 2 victory, ahead of Ricardo Escuela (Agrupacion Virgen de Fatima) and Tiesj Benoot (Lotto Soudal), who took second and third, respectively.

The next stage, Stage 3, will be a 14.4 kilometer individual time trial through the city of San Juan.
