The 86th edition of the Grote Prijs Stad Sint-Niklaas (Grand Prix of the City of Sint-Niklaas) will makes its grand departure from the Flemish town of Sint-Niklaas on July 7th at 1:00 p.m. local time.
The historic city of Sint-Niklaas dates back to the 13th century and boasts 75,000 residents, along with a myriad of Romanesque and Baroque architecture surrounding the town square.
The Grote Prijs Stad Sint-Niklaas dates back to the year 1932, with this year's edition marking the 86th edition of the cycling race. The Grote Prijs is one-day UCI Europe Tour cycling race, in which mostly Pro Continental and Continental cycling squads compete.
Justin Jules of the Veranclassic-AGO cycling team captured the race victory at last year's edition of the Grote Prijs in a time of just over 4 hours. Jules was able to take the win in a sprint finish ahead of Alfdan de Decker and Avanti IsoWhey Sport rider Anthony Giacoppo. The Lotto Soudal U23 team brought a group of young, talented riders, and posted 4th, 6th, and 13th place finishes in the field of over 140 competitors.
Look out for Milan Menten of the Lotto Soudal U23 squad throughout the race, as Menten was able to put in a solid 4th place finish at last year's edition of the Grote Prijs and will be eager to capture the title that eluded him in 2016. So far this year Menten has put up strong showings, finishing 12th at the Ronde van Overijssel and 14th at the Grand Prix Criquielion, which boast similar conditions to the Grote Prijs Stad Sint-Niklaas.
The 86th Grote Prijs Stad Sint-Niklaas will take the rider 180 kilometers through the Flemish countryside, departing from and finishing in the town square of Sint-Niklaas, Belgium.
