Bora-Hangrohe received a fresh new team name for the 2017 season after racing under the name Bora-Argon 18 for the past two seasons. The German-based club currently is sitting in 8th place in the UCI WorldTour Team Ranking with 4052 UCI points.
The Bora-Hangrohe team ride Specialized bikes, and are outfitted in black and turquoise kits made by CRAFT.
Sports Director Enrico Poitschke publicly stated that the team's goals for 2017 included a win at one of the Monuments, a top-5 placing in at least two of the Grand Tours' general classification, a green jersey at the Tour de France, and a top-6 placing in the final WorldTour Team Ranking. To this point, Bora-Hangrohe failed to capture a win at any of the four Spring Monuments, but still have the opportunity at Il Lombardia on October 7th. Bora-Hangrohe also failed to place a rider in the top-5 in the general classification at the Giro d'Italia this year and finished 16th in the general classification as a team.
The most notable event for Bora-Hangrohe before the start of the 2017 season was their signing of possibly the world's most talented rider and mercurial personality in Peter Sagan to a three-year contract. Sagan has become renowned for not only his achievements on WorldTour, but for his outspoken comments and self-assured attitude. Sagan was the premier signing during the off-season, and will be Bora-Hangrohe's rider aiming for the green jersey at the Tour de France.
Sagan is known to be the best points classification rider on the WorldTour, and has already won the points classification at Tirreno-Adriatico, the Tour de Suisse, and the Tour of California in 2017. The Slovak rider also fared well in the Spring Classics, winning Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne, and finishing 2nd at Milan-San Remo and Omloop Het Niuewsblad.
Bora-Hangrohe will likely be looking towards Rafal Majka as their primary general classification rider at the 2017 Tour de France. Majka, a teammate of Sagan's on the former Tinkoff squad, only finished 27th in the general classification at the 2016 edition of the Tour de France, but won the mountains classification, and also finished 5th in the general classification at the 2016 Giro d'Italia.
Majka has shown to be a solid tour rider in 2017 so far, winning both the general classification and mountains classification titles at the Tour of Slovenia, and finishing 2nd overall at the Tour of California.
Bora-Hangrohe has announced their complete Tour de France squad for 2017, which will include Emanuel Buchmann, Maciej Bodnar, Marcus Burghardt, Rafal Majka, Peter Sagan, Jay McCarthy, Juraj Sagan, Rudiger Selig, and Pawel Poljanksi.
