This year will mark BMC's 12th season as a professional squad, and the U.S.-based team will look to build on a successful 2016 campaign, in which the squad finished 4th in the UCI WorldTour Team Ranking.
BMC sport a sleek black and red kit, and ride bikes from their title sponsor BMC. BMC is off to a stellar start to the 2017 season, in even better positioning that their 4th place ranking in 2016. BMC currently sit in 2nd place in the UCI WorldTour Team Ranking with 7828 points, behind only behind Quick-Step Floors.
Greg Van Avermaet has been on a tear for BMC in 2017, and has shown no signs of slowing down at age 32. The Belgian cyclist currently ranks as the top individual rider in the UCI Individual Rankings, and has an impressive list of showings through the 2017 season so far. Van Avermaet appeared invincible during the Spring Classics, winning Paris-Roubaix, Gent-Wevelgem, E3 Harelbeke, and Omloop het Niuewsblad. Van Avermaet was also able to finish 2nd at Strade Bianche and 7th at Kuurne-Brussels-Kurne.
In addition to his success at the Classics, Van Avermaet displayed his range of talent by winning both the general classification and points classification at the Tour of Luxembourg, placing 2nd in the general classification at the Tour of Flanders, and winning Stage 1 at Tirreno-Adratico. However, Van Avermaet has not achieved great success at the Grand Tour races, with his best result coming at the 2014 Tour de France with a 38th place finish in the general classification.
The 2017 Tour de France squad for BMC will include Damiano Caruso, Alessandro De Marchi, Stefan Kung, Amael Moinard, Richie Porte, Nicolas Roche, Michael Schar, Greg Van Avermaet, and Danilo Wyss.
After his 5th place showing in the general classification at the 2016 edition of the Tour de France, BMC will likely be looking to focus their support on putting Richie Porte atop the general classification at the TDF this year. Porte has already won the Tour Down Under and Tour de Romandie, as well as posting a 2nd place finish at the Criterium du Dauphine. Porte appears to be rounding into form just in time for this year's Tour de France, and clearly has a capable supporting cast to help propel the Tasman rider onto this TDF podium, possibly in the Maillot Jaune.
