Astana Pro Team was formed in 2007 and has been on the WorldTour since 2011. Astana currently ride with a Kazakhstani license, and are named after the capital of Kazakhstan. The light blue jerseys and bibs are the signature uniform for the Astana team. The Astana Pro Team rides Argon-18 bikes.
Astana are led by Fabio Aru, a 26-year-old Italian who has been with Astana since the 2012 season. Astana team management have publicly stated that they have decided to built their team around Aru and will look to him as the leader of the squad. Thus, we can plan to see Astana's Tour de France squad working to place Aru in the best possible position among the general classification. Aru finished 13th in the general classification of his first Tour de France in 2016, and finished 1st at the 2015 Vuelta a Espana and 2nd at the 2015 Giro d'Italia in the general classification. In 2017 so far, Aru has finished 8th overall at Abu Dhabi Tour, 5th at the Criterium du Daphine, 3rd at the Tour of Oman, and 1st at the Italian National Road Race.
Danish veteran Jakob Fuglsang, who currently ranks 35th in the UCI individual road rankings with 1354 UCI points, will also be an important rider for Astana going forward. Fuglsang won the Criterium du Dauphine earlier in 2017 and won the silver medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janiero.
The 2017 Astana squad for the Tour de France will include Fabio Aru, Jakob Fuglsang, Kozhatayev Bakhtiyar, Dario Cataldo, Dmitriy Gruzdev, Andrei Grivko, Andrei Zeits, Michael Valgren, and Alexey Lutsenko.
Astana currently ranks 15th in the WorldTour Team Rankings with 2576 UCI points.
