Dstny to Drop Sponsorship of Lotto-Dstny Cycling Team After Tension with Partner

 

The main co-sponsor of the Lotto-Dstny cycling team will drop its partnership with the team at the beginning of 2025 after frictions reached a boiling point. The style and personality of Lotto, the Belgian national lottery company, CEO Jannie Haek, according Dstny leadership, a Belgian company that offers cloud-based business communication.

Daan De Wever, CEO of Dstny, told Belgian newspaper De Tijd that the company "quickly realized that we were in a structure where the Lottery did not want to share power. In every decision - both sporting and policy - they wanted to have the last word. The culture, the style and the collaboration were not what we had in mind." Dstny had spend between 5 and 7 million euros in sponsorship money per year.

Lotto-Dstny is a Belgian professional cycling team with a rich history in the sport. Lotto has been sponsoring cycling teams since 1984, becoming the primary sponsor in 1985. The current team structure was formed in 2003 through a merger of Lotto-Adecco and Domo-Farm Frites teams. In 2023, Dstny, a business communications provider, became a co-sponsor alongside the Belgian national lottery. 

Until 2022, Lotto-Dstny was a member of the UCI World Tour. For the 2023-2025 cycle, the team was relegated to UCI ProTeam status after finishing 19th in the 2020-2022 qualification cycle. Despite the relegation, they receive wildcards for all 2023 World Tour stage and one-day races due to their performance
