French Rider Takes First on Intense Sprint Finish on Stage 2 of 2018 Etiole de Besseges

On a Winter day in the Occitanie, the peloton went out fast, leaving the city of Nimes for Stage 2 at the 2018 Etoile de Besseges.

The course for Stage 2 at the 48th Etoile de Besseges cycling race was a fast 151 kilometer route beginning in Nimes and taking riders through the countryside in southern France to the finish in Generac.

As the peloton approached the finish, many of the same riders that contended for victory on Stage 1 were once again present at the front of the pack for their chance at a stage victory.

On a tight sprint, Christopher Laporte (Cofidis) was able to edge out Vital Concept rider and fellow Frenchman Bryan Coquard and take the victory on Stage 2.

a group of three Belgian riders, Timothy Dupont (Wanty-Groupe Gobert), Amaury Capiot (Sport Vlaanderen Baloise), and Emiel Vermeulen (Roubaix Lille Metropole) came in next, taking third through fifth respectively, while Stage 1 winner Marc Sarreau (FDJ) finished in sixth.

For his efforts on the day, Christopher Laporte moves into first in the general classification standings, however Laporte hold the same official overall time as Bryan Coquard and Marc Sarreau thus far.

Laporte is also currently leading in the points classification, while Belgian rider Milan Menten (Sport Vlaanderen Baloise) lead in the mountains classification, as well as best young rider competition.
