RCS Sport has officially announced the 22 teams that will be competing at the 101st edition of the historic Giro d'Italia.
18 of the team slots are filled by the 18 WorldTour teams, but the remaining four spots are determined by a wildcard system.
The four wildcard teams selected for the 2018 Giro d'Italia include three Italian teams Bardiani CSF, Androni Giacattoli-Sidermec, and Willier Triestina-Selle Italia, and the Israel-based Israel Cycling Academy team.
Each of the 22 teams will be selecting eight riders to compete in the grueling race, which will take place from May 4-27.
The Giro d'Italia, along with the Tour de France and Vuelta a Espana, comprise the three Grand Tour race, famous for their history and length.
The general classification leader, and eventual overall winner, of the Giro d'Italia is rewarded with the honor of wearing the Maglia Rosa or Pink Jersey.
