Roompot-Nederlandse Loterij 2017 Team Profile

The Roompot-Nederlandse Loterij team is once again a top team in professional cycling, as the Dutch team has found success throughout the 2017 season thus far. The team is only in their third year in the professional peloton, but has quickly climbed the ranks of the Pro Continental level.

Roompot-Nederlandse Loterij has become well known for their top results on the UCI Pro Continental scene in recent years and the fact that their roster is made up exclusively of riders hailing from the Netherlands.

Through the first half of the year, the Roompot-Nederlandse Loterij team sits in eighth place in the UCI Europe Tour standings with 1941 UCI points.

Title sponsor Roompot is a Dutch vacation booking company and has been title sponsor of the team since its inception in 2015. Nederlandse Loterij is the Dutch national lottery provider and signed on as a co-title sponsor for the 2017 season.

The Roompot-Nederlandse Loterij has additional partnerships with companies such as effeweg.nl a Dutch travel website, Vredestein tire company, lighting manufacturer Calex, BYE! sports nutrition company, and online car leasing company Lekkerleasen.

Outfitted by 36 Cycling, the Roompot-Nederlandse team ride in eye-catching bright orange kits, symbolic of the historic importance of the color orange to the Netherlands.

Roompot-Nederlandse Loterij ride bicycles built and designed in the Netherlands by Isaac Cycles, and use both the Element team edition road bike and Muon time trial bike for competition.

At 36 years of age, Pieter Weening is still showing the world that he is one of the world's top cyclists, as part of the Roompot-Nederlandse Loterij team. After nine years with the Rabobank squad and four with Orica-GreenEDGE, Weening signed with Roompot-Nederlandse Loterij in 2016. In February, Weening finished an impressive 11th overall the the Vuelta a Andalucia, one place ahead of this year's polka dot jersey winner at the Tour de France Warren Barguil, before winning the King of the Mountains title at the Tour de Yorkshire. Weening followed that up with a 3rd place overall finish at the Tour of Norway and 12th overall showing at the Tour de Fjords in May. Most recently, the veteran Dutch rider won the King of the Mountains title at the Tour of Austria, while also finishing 13th overall in the general classification.

Pim Ligthart is another veteran rider that has put up strong results for Roompot-Nederlandse Loterij thus far in 2017. After a 55th place showing at Dwars door Vlaanderen and a 58th place finish at Gent-Wevelgem, Ligthart had great outings at Three Days of De Panne and Four Days of Dunkirk, finishing 8th overall at De Panne and 9th overall at Dunkirk. Ligthart was also able to put in a respectable 19th place finish at the competitive Dutch National Road race in June. Ligthart is in his tenth year as a professional cyclist, and is an important veteran leader for the Roompot-Nederlandse Loterij squad on the bike and off.

21-year-old Martin Budding is the youngest rider on the Roompot-Nederlandse Loterij squad, but has already begun to show his impressive talents as a climber. After spending three years with the Rabobank Development Team, Budding signed with Roompot-Nederlandse Loterij for the 2017 season. At the Vuelta a Andalucia in February, Budding finished 6th in the King of the Mountains competition ahead of World Tour riders Tim Wellens and Thibault Pinot, and went on to take 8th at the Classic Sud Ardeche the next week. Budding then took 4th in the mountains classification at the Circuit Cycliste Sarthe, 8th in the best young rider classification at Four Days of Dunkirk, and 6th in the King of the Mountains competition at the Skoda Tour de Luxembourg. At only 21 years of age Martin Budding still has a long career left, but has already shown that he can compete with the best riders in the world, especially on the climbs.
