UAE Team Emirates 2017 Team Profile

UAE Team Emirates are riding under a new name for the 2017 season, after competing as Lampre-Merida from 2013-2016.

The team has also changed its UCI registration from Italy, where it was registered from 1991-2016, to the United Arab Emirates. The team is funded by the United Arab Emirates this season, with UAE-based airline, Emirates, gaining title sponsorship for 2017 as well. Despite the teams change in sponsorship and licence registration, there is still an Italian flare to the team, which includes fourteen riders hailing from Italy.

The UAE Team Emirates team compete in red, green, black, and white kits. The team rides bikes made by Colnago with Campagnolo components, with both companies being based in Italy.

The UAE Team Emirates squad currently sits in 13th in the UCI WorldTour Team Rankings with 2878 UCI points.

Expect the UAE Team Emirates squad to be supporting Columbian rider Darwin Atapuma at this year's edition of the Tour de France. Atapuma has slowly been climbing his way into the public eye on the WorldTourafter holding the Maillot Rosa at last year's Vuelta a Espana from stages 4-7. Atapuma is a climbing specialist, and will look to take advantage of the five summit finishes at this year's Tour. While Atapuma has not put up many results thus far in 2017, he should be rested and prepared to race at this year's Tour de France.

Great Britain's Ben Swift and Italy's Diego Ulissi will also be two names that stand out on the UAE Team Emirates squad at this year's Tour de France.

Swift rode with Team Sky for seven years, before signing with UAE Team Emirates for the 2017 season. Swift captured the points classification at last year's Vuelta a Andulucia and finished second at Milan-San Remo in 2016. Recently, Swift finished 5th at the British Road Race National Championships.

Ulissi is known for his success at the Giro d'Italia, winning a total of six stages over his career, but will be included in this year's Tour de France squad for UAE Team Emirate. Ulissi is a seven-year veteran for the team, and has had a very successful year in 2017 so far, finishing 5th in the general classification at the Tour Down Under and 10th a La Fleche Walloone, as well as recently taking second at the Italian National Road Race Championships behind Fabio Aru.

The full squad for UAE Team Emirates at this year's edition of the Tour de France will include Darwin Atapuma, Diego Ulissi, Ben Swift, Metteo Bono, Louis Meintjes, Kristijan Durasek, Mori Manuele, Vegard Stake Laengen, and Marco Marcato.
