Team Lotto NL-Jumbo has ridden under its current name since 2015, and was formed in 1984 as Kwantum-Decosol. Lotto NL-Jumbo is registered in the Netherlands, and has been since its inception. The team's title sponsors include Lotto NL, the Netherlands national lottery, and Jumbo, a supermarket chain based in Veghel, Netherlands.
Japanese-based company Shimano announced that they would outfit Lotto NL-Jumbo starting in 2017, who ride in their eye-catching black and yellow kits. Team Lotto NL-Jumbo has ridden Bianchi bikes since the 2014 season.
The Lotto NL-Jumbo team currently sits in 10th place on the UCI WorldTour Team Rankings with 3370 UCI points. Despite not sitting at the top of the team rankings at this point in the season, Lotto NL-Jumbo has captured quality early season victories, with Primoz Roglic winning the general classification title at the Volta ao Algarve and George Bennett taking 1st overall at the Tour of California. Jos van Emden was also able to capture a time trial win on the final stage of this year's Giro d'Italia.
Lotto NL-Jumbo have many capable all-rounders who could be fighting for multiple stage wins at this year's Tour de France. While Primoz Roglic has only participated in a single Grand Tour race, finishing 58th in the general classification at last year's Giro d'Italia, the Slovenian rider is rounding into form this season with an overall victory at the Volta ao Algarve, as well as a 3rd place showing at the Tour de Romandie and a 4th place finish at Tirreno-Adriatico. Roglic was also able to capture a win during the stage 9 individual time trial at last year's Giro d'Italia.
George Bennett has been putting in a good year for the Lotto NL-Jumbo team as well, having been bolstered especially by his victory in the general classification at the Tour of California. Bennett was hit by a car during training recently, but has stated that he should be prepared mentally and physically for this year's Tour de France. The veteran rider Robert Gesink will also be eyeing a stage victory after capturing a 14th stage win at last year's Vuelta a Espana.
The biggest name in Lotto NL-Jumbo's squad this season is Dylan Groenewegen. The 24-year-old from Amsterdam will be looking to take wins on flatter stages, and fight for the green points classification jersey at the Tour de France this year. Groenewegen finished 2nd overall at the Tour of Dubai earlier this year and won the race's young rider classification. Groenewegen also finished 3rd at the Netherlands National Road Race Championship and 5th at Dwars door Vlaanderen, while capturing two stages at the Tour of Norway and a stage at the Tour de Yorkshire.
Team Lotto NL-Jumbo's announced squad for this year's edition of the Tour de France will include Robert Gesink, George Bennett, Dylan Groenewegen, Jos van Emden, Primoz Roglic, Paul Martens, Timo Roosen, Tom Leezer, and Robert Wagner.
