Orica-Scott was formed in 2012, and currently remains as the only Australian-based team on the WorldTour. The team has developed over the past couple years to become a legitimate Grand Tour title contender with a full spectrum of talented riders across multiple disciplines.
Orica, an Australian-based supplier of mining explosives, has been a title sponsor since 2012, with the team's bike supplier Scott Sports joining on as a title sponsor for the 2017 season. Orica-Scott ride navy blue and neon yellow kits supplied by Italian sportwear brand Giordana.
After finishing the 2016 season in 5th place in the UCI WorldTour Team Ranking, the Orica-Scott team currently holds the same spot with 5396 UCI points.
2017 could be the season that British rider Simon Yates breaks through at the Tour de France. Yates finished 6th at last year's Vuelta a Espana, and has raced to a 2nd place showing in the general classification at the Tour de Romandie and 9th overall at Paris-Nice this season.
Estaban Chaves is another rider for the Orica-Scott that could make his way onto the podium at the end of this year's edition of the Tour de France. Chaves had an impressive 2016 season, capturing wins at Il Lombardia and the Giro dell'Emiliana, and finishing 2nd in the general classification at the Giro d'Italia and 3rd overall at the Vuelta a Espana. Chaves held the Maglia Rosa at the 2016 Giro d'Italia after the 19th stage, but ended up being overtaken by Vincenzo Nibali after stage 20. This season, Chaves had a solid showing at the Tour Down Under, finishing 2nd in the general classification behind BMC's Richie Porte.
Orica-Scott do not have a pure sprinter on their announced Tour de France squad for 2017, but Luke Durbridge has proven to be successful time trialist and could look to capture a couple stages for the Australian team.
Orica-Scott has announced that their squad for the 2017 edition of the Tour de France will include Simon Yates, Luke Durbridge, Estaban Chaves, Michael Albasini, Damien Howson, Mathew Hayman, Jens Keukeleire, Daryl Impey, and Roman Kreuzinger.
