FDJ 2017 Team Profile

The French squad Fracaise des Jeux (FDJ) was founded in 1997, and has become a perennial mainstay in professional cycling. FDJ stands for Francaise dexs Jeux, and is named for the French national lottery, which has been a title sponsor and majority owner of the team since its founding.

FDJ compete in the French national colors of blue, white, and red, and are outfitted by B'Twin. FDJ ride Lapierre bikes, a French-based company.

FDJ currently sit at 16th place in the UCI WorldTour Team Rankings with 2462 UCI points.

Similar to AG2R La Mondiale, the other French-based team on the WorldTour, a majority of FDJ's riders are French nationals. Indeed, 21 of the team's 29 riders are from France.

Thibault Pinot is the French outfit's strongest all-rounder, and the team's best shot at capturing the Maillot Jaune in this year's Tour de France. A major race win in 2017 has alluded Pinot so far, but the French rider has displayed that he is still in good form, finishing 4th in the general classification at the Giro d'Italia, as well as posting a 2nd place finish at the Tour of the Alps and 3rd place showings at Tirreno-Adriatico and the Vuelta a Andalucia.

Pinot held that polka dot jersey for the mountains classification for three stages at last year's Tour de France before disappointingly having to abandon the race after stage 12 as a result of bronchitis. Pinot will be hungry for a Grand Tour win this year after having to drop during last year's Tour de France, and coming up just shy of the Maillot Jaune in 2014 after a 3rd place finish in the general classification.

Arnaud Demare has been another bright spot for FDJ, and will look to capture the green jersey in the points classification at the Tour de France this year. Demare won the points classification at the Criterium du Dauphine earlier this year and was recently crowned the French National Road Race Champion after beating out Nacer Bouhanni. In the Spring Classics, Demare was also able to make a name for himself, putting up 6th place finishes at Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne, Milan-San Remo, and Paris-Roubaix.

FDJ has announced their 9-man squad for the 2017 Tour de France, which will include Arnaud Demare, Thibault Pinot, Mickael Delage, Olivier Le Gac, Jacopo Guarnieri, Ignatas Konovalovas, Davide Cimolai, Arthur Vichot, and Rudy Molard.
